A young man was shot to death by a gang of robbers at Purba Goakhali village in Pekua upazila early Sunday.The deceased was identified as Abdul Khalek, 28, son of Ola Miah, a resident of the same village.Abdur Rakib, officer-in-charge of Pekua Police Station, said a gang of robbers, numbering 10 to 12, swooped on the house of businessman Mir Kashem at the village and kept the house inmates hostage at gunpoint around 2:30 am.Hearing scream of the house inmates, local people including Khalek, rushed to the spot and tried to resist the robbers.The hoodlums opened fire at them, leaving Khalek dead on the spot.However, the robber gang managed to flee the scene.Informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
