State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Kamal today said the government is considering giving permission to BNP’s Dhaka rally on 5 January if there is no apprehension of violence centering the meeting.
He said the law enforcement agencies are working to ascertain whether there is any possibility of violence.
The state minister was talking to journalists after inaugurating the four-day 8th Hajj-Omrah Fair at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) here. Replying to a query, he said, “Today is January 2. Time has not expired yet. The decision on BNP’s meeting will be known at an appropriate time.”The state minister said the government is working to modernize the existing Hajj process and make it free from harassment of brokers and middlemen. He said his ministry will take all necessary steps to ensure the supply of passports to Hajj pilgrims in due time.
Hajj Association of Bangladesh (HAB) organized the fair, which will remain open from 9:00am to 8:00pm every day till January 5, said organisers.
HAAB President Mohammad Ibrahim Bahar presided over the function.
Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Religious Affairs Ministry BH Harun, secretary of Religious Affairs Ministry Chowdhury Babul Hasan and HAAB Secretary General Sheikh Abdullah, among others, also spoke on the occasion. – BSS
