5 cops among 6 injured in Comilla clash

Six people, including five members of police, were injured in a clash that between the law enforcers and the supporters of an accused of a petrol bomb attack case following his arrest from Bhelanagar village of North Eliotganj union parishad in Daidkandi upazila on Wednesday evening.
The clash took place when a team of Daudkhali Model Police Station, led by sub-inspector Tapan Kumar Bakshi, went to the village in plainclothes and tried to arrest Jashim Uddin, a local leader of BNP and an accused of the Raypur petrol bomb attack case around 6pm.
Witnesses said no sooner had the police members in plainclothes arrested Jashim when his elder brother Gias Uddin Mollah, who is a retired police officer, stood in the way of the law enforcers and inquired about their identities, leading the law enforcers to shot gunfire at one point.However, SI Bakshi said while the police members were leaving the village after arresting the accused, the supporters of the accused tired to snatch him away. At one point, Jasim’s men opened fire at the police, forcing the law enforcers to retaliate with gunfire. Five members of police were reportedly injured while Jasim’s elder brother Gias Uddin received bullet injuries during the clash.Later, police took the arrested to Daudkhali Model Police Station.The police station’s officer-in-charge Mohammad Abu Salam Mia confirmed the incident. -UNB, Comilla
