Nationwide 36-hour hartal passes day one

The countrywide 36-hour shutdown, called by opposition BNP-led 18-party alliance, is underway on Tuesday amid stray incidents of blasts. The alliance is observing the nonstop lockdown demanding restoration of caretaker government and release of their leaders.
Our correspondents report: Hartal supporters exploded thirty two cocktails in different parts of the capital, Khulna city and Tangail town.
At least 22 people were injured when police fired rubber bullets, tear shells and sound grenade to disperse a pro-hartal procession in front of Rajshahi College in the morning.
Besides, nine picketers were held in Jatrabari, Khilgaon and Mirpur areas of the capital, Chittagong and Mymensingh.
Jamaat brought out a brisk procession in Azimpur Chhapra Mosque area around 6:15am and pickets blasted cocktails during the time, banglanews correspondent reports.
They chanted slogans in support of hartal and demanding release of its leader who detained for crimes against humanity.
Hartal supporters vandalized a CNG-run auto rickshaw in city’s Agargaon area around 6:30am.
Besides, two cocktails were blasted from a pro-hartal procession in front of Mirpur Bangla College at the same time.
Police, however, held a hartal supporter from Mirpur-10 Golchattar. Hartal supporters brought out a pro-hartal procession in Dholaipar area in city’s Jatrabari around 6:35 am.
During the time, they exploded three to four cocktails. On the other hand Chhatra Shibir took out procession at Matuail in city’s Jatrabari area around 6:30am.
Meanwhile, three female activists of Mahila Dal were held while they brought out a brisk procession in city’s Khilgaon area around 8am.
On the other hand, cops arrested Juba Dal secretary of ward-85 while the party took out procession in Jatrabari’s Dhalpur area around 8:45am.
Law enforcing agencies including police, RAB and Detective Branches of police have taken strict position in different key points of the city.
Police are searching suspected people and vehicles at different points.
In Rajshahi: At least 12 people injured when police fired rubber bullets, tear shell and hurled sound grenade to disperse a procession led by district BNP president in the morning.
In Jessore: At least 10 people, including three police officers, were injured in a clash between police and BNP leaders-activists in Baghapara upazila of the district around 11:00am.
Among the injured, three received bullet wound. In Chandpur: Police held four activists of BNP and Jamaat from different spots of the district in the morning.
In Mymensingh: Police held a Juba Dal leader while picketers torched a pickup van in Gafargaon area around 8am.
In Khulna: Chhatra Shibir men brought out a procession at Majid Sarani of divisional city and exploded three cocktails around 6:30am. Being obstructed, hartal supporters threw brickbats on police. Later police fired two rounds of bullet to disperse them.
