Factory building collapse death toll 1,127

Nobody else was recovered from the rubble of the collapsed Rana Plaza on Monday, the 20th day of the rescue operation.Sources at the Army control room set up at the spot said the death toll from the disastrous building collapse stood at 1,127.

Of the recovered corpses, 834 have been handed over to the families while 59 were kept at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue.The rest 234 unidentified bodies have been buried at Jurain Graveyard in the capital.

A total of 3,565 people –- dead and alive — have so far been pulled out of the rubble.

Of them, 2438 people were rescued alive. However, 15 of them died at different hospitals.

Meanwhile, although no body was recovered from the ruins of the Rana Plaza on Monday, huge drugs and locally made weapons were found while removing the wreckage.

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members recovered 18 bottles of Phensidyl syrup, eight cans of beer, several choppers and saws and shackles from the basement of Rana Plaza owner Sohel Rana.

Later, the recovered items were handed over to Savar Police Station. The eight-storey building came down crashing on April 24. (Source: UNB)
