A murder suspect stabs to death another suspect in Comilla

Dhaka, July 15 – A murder accused has been stabbed to death by another suspect of a murder case in front of a judge inside a courtroom in Comilla.
The incident took place at the courtroom of Fatema Ferdous, judge the 3rd Additional Judge’s Court of Cumilla at about 11.30am on Monday.The deceased was identified as Faruk,28, son of Ohid Ullah of Monoharganj in Cumilla, while the alleged attacker Hassan was his cousin.
Both of them were accused in a murder case and were at the courtroom for the hearing, said Cumilla superintendent of police Syed Nurul Islam.
Lawyer of the case Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) Nurul Islam said, “Both of them were accused in a case filed over the murder of Haji Abdul Karim in Manoharganj Upazila in 2013. The accused persons, on bail, appeared before the court on Monday for a hearing.”
“At one stage of court proceedings, Hasan (accused No 8) started chasing Faruk (accused No 4) with a knife. At one point, Hasan stabbed Faruk indiscriminately into the courtroom. Hasan rushed into the judge’s room (khas karma) in a bid to save his life. But, Faruk chased him and swooped Faruk indiscriminately,” court sources said.
Public Prosecutor Liakat Ali told reporters that the victim (Faruk) tried to hide himself under a table inside the judge’s chamber. But, he could not save him as the killer swooped him indiscriminately there.
Faruk was severely injured and taken to Comilla Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) where the on-duty physician declared him dead on arrival, lawyers concerned said.
Following the incident, Judge Fatema Ferdous told reporters, “An accused has been killed in front me. I myself could have been attacked. Are we safe in any place?
Comilla district Superintendent of Police (SP) Syed Nurul Islam said: “An accused has been killed by another accused of the same case. The attacker has been detained.”
“Security has been strengthened on the court premises,” Nurul Islam said. – Staff Reporter
