A local Awami League leader was gunned down by miscreants at Duttabari in Sadar upazila on Saturday night.
The deceased was identified as Bakul Haidar, 52, joint secretary of Bagbati union unit of Awami League and a member of Bagbati union parishad.
Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said hoodlums opened fire on Bakul, son of Hazrat Ali, in front of his residence around 8pm, leaving him dead on the spot.
The motive behind the killing could not be known immediately, he said, adding that a case was filed in this regard.
