AL mayor candidate Taposh airs 30-year Dhaka master plan

Dhaka, Jan 29 – Awami League mayoral candidate for the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) election, Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh has announced a 30-year master plan and five points working plans in his election manifesto. His 5-points manifesto included traditional Dhaka, beautiful Dhaka, vibrant Dhaka, well-governed Dhaka and developed Dhaka.
He also vowed to make the DSCC area corruption-free and effectively autonomous within two years.
“The DSCC will remain open round-the-clock to serve the city dwellers,” he promised while announcing the manifesto for upcoming city polls at Awami League’s Central Office in the capital yesterday.
He added that he, if elected, would introduce a coordinated one-stop service centre at DSCC to help citizen avail utility services quickly. According to his manifesto, adequate health centres would be established while mother-child care and family planning would get focus.
Adequate number of hostels for women and students will be built. A 24/7 helpline and app will be activated.
He also ensured city dwellers will get access to basic amenities within 90 days of his office joining.
Taposh said, “If elected, I will build the Dhaka central jail area as a heritage site. I will build a museum and art gallery with coordinated efforts and will preserve and restore the traditional characteristics of Old Dhaka through a master plan.”
Roads will be divided into separate lanes, for high-speed vehicles, for medium-speed vehicles and some will be dedicated for walking.
The mayoral candidate also said they will be very vigilant and carry out daily activities to eradicate mosquitoes.
Taposh’s election pledges include strengthening Panchayat system to check social crimes, introducing separate lanes for motorised and non-motorised vehicles, ensuring good governance, making the city tourist friendly, massive development on the banks of River Buriganga, fire hydrant points at narrow alleys and effluent treatment plant at industries and others.
To ensure that the capital realises its potential in that regard, Taposh said Dhaka needs to be revived.
Ruling party leaders Amir Hossain Amu, Mozaffar Hossain Poltu, Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury, Bahauddin Nasim, Abu Ahmed Mannafi, Apu Ukil, among others, were present at the time the announcement. – Staff Reporter
