All set for January 5 polls in Faridpur

All preparations are completed to hold the January 5 JatiyaSangsad polls in only one constituency out of

four constituencies of this district.

According to official sources, the candidates nominated by Awami League in Faridpur-1, Faridpur-2

and Faridpur-3 were elected unopposed earlier. The election to 10th JS will be held only in Faridpur-4

comprising Bhanga, Sadarpur and Charbhadrasan upazillas.

In an exclusive interview with BSS today the Returning Officer(RO) who is also the Deputy Commissioner

(DC) of Faridpur Abu HenaMorshedZaman told that polling will be held at 166 centers of this

constituency when 3,21,329 voters both male and female will cast their votes. Out of the total voters

1,59.072 will be male and 1,62,257 are female, the RO added.

The RO informed that 184 presiding officers, 697 Assistant presiding officers and 1393 polling officers

were earlier appointed including reserved officials for holding the poll in a fair and smooth manner.

Necessary trainings were also provided to them for holding poll, he added.

When asked about the law and order situation in view of boycotting the election by certain parties the

RO told that there will be no problem for this boycotting because all necessary voting friendly situation

have been ensured. The prevailing law and order situation which is already good will be also good in the

constituency, he said.

Detailing the measures taken by the government to hold free, fair and credible polls the RO informed

that sufficient law enforcing personnel including army, APBn, RAB and police will be vigilant in and

around the polling centers.

‘We like to instill the sense of security among the voters so that they can come to the polling centers

without any hazards and cast their valuable votes freely in favor of their chosen candidate’ the RO

Morshed Zaman told.

The RO informed that the army personnel who are already in the area will be on patrol and mobile duty

in such a manner so that they can reach to any disturbing centers within five to ten minutes particularly

in some unions of Sadarpur and Charbhadrasan upazillas located in char land of river Padma.

He further informed that officially there are three candidates in the fray. They are heavy weight

candidate and Awami League presidium member Kazi Zafrullah, independent candidate Mujibur

Rahman Nixon Chowdhury who is also the younger brother of Whip of the present JS Nur-e- Alom

Chowdhury alias Liton Chowdury and JP(Manju) nominated candidate Md. ZakirHossain.

According to some voters of this constituency the main vote battle will be held between AL candidate

Kazi Zafrullah and independent candidate Nixon Chowdhury.

It may be mentioned here that Prime Minister ShaikhHasina on last Dec. 26 addressed two public rallies

at Bhanga and Sadarpur in favor of Kazi Zafrullah. –BSS, Faridpur
