‘All villages to be brought under rural power network by 2021’

Deputy Speaker of Bangladesh Parliament Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah on Saturday said all the villages including char areas of the country would be brought under rural electrification network by 2021.
“To this end, the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken up an initiative to supply electricity to the chars to change the living standard of the char dwellers at the arrangement of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board”, he said. Deputy Speaker and local lawmaker Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah said this while addressing a function on electricity supply at Bhatiapara Char under Erendabari union of Fulchhari upazila in the district at noon as the chief guest. Bangladesh Awami League, Erendabari union unit, and Jamalpupr Palli Bidyut Samity (JPBS) jointly arranged the function in the char. With president of union AL M Habibur Rahman in the chair, the function was also addressed, among others, by general manager of JPBS AHM Rezaullah Khan and Kanchipara union parishad chairman Abu Bakar Siddique Munna. Deputy speaker Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah said past BNP-
Jamaat alliance government was fully responsible for creating the country’s power crisis as it did not work properly. The government after assuming to power in 2009 took initiatives to solve the country’s power crisis through setting up new power plants, he also said. At present, more than 11000-MW electricity was being generated in the country but only 3300 MW electricity was produced due to the mismanagement of the past BNP-Jamaat government in 2008, he also alleged. Later, Rabbi formally inaugurated the electrification programme in the char by pressing a switch of a bulb. Besides, the deputy speaker also inaugurated the construction of 4.50 KM line at Horischandi Char of the union in the afternoon. A large number of people including the officials of JPBS, public representatives, social workers, political leaders and local elite were present on the occasion. -BSS, Gaibandha
