Alliance Française de Dhaka pays tribute to Tagore-Nazrul

French cultural organization Alliance Française de Dhaka paid tribute to Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore and National poet Kazi Nazrul Islam through a musical programme at its Dhanmondi center on Friday evening.The event featured mesmerizing performances of Tagore and Nazrul songs, performed by 28 artistes. A total of 18 songs were presented by the performers.
The performing artists had been selected through a recent musical workshop titled ‘Subcontinental Classical Music’, conducted by renowned classical music-artiste Manzurul Islam Khan.
Talking to UNB about the programme, Manzurul said “This kind of event is arranged for the first time in 40 years, at the Alliance Française de Dhaka. Our students from the workshop performed all these songs straight from their hearts, as it was our first-ever tribute event to the legendary duo of Bengali music and culture.”
Notable personalities including Alliance Française de Dhaka’s director Olivier Dintinger and poet Shahidullah Farazi were present at the programme.
