Asian Archery: Bangladeshi archers shine on day-2

Dhaka – Eight Bangladeshi archers – 4 men and 4 women – reached the round of 24 of the men’s and women’s recurve singles respectively in the 21st Asian Archery Championships at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Thai capital Bangkok on Sunday.

In the men’s competition,  Ruman Shana, who has qualified to represent Bangladesh in the Tokyo Olympics, and Tamimul Islam jumped to the round of 24 with the ‘byes’ while Sakib Molla beat Dorji Lam of Bhutan by 6-0 set points and Hakim Ahmed Rubel beat Moreno Gabriel Luis by 6-2 set points in the round of 48.

In the women’s recurve singles, Mahanaz Akter Monera, Nasrin Akter, Ety Khatun and Beauty Ray reached round of 24.

In the round of 48 of the women’s recurve singles, Nasrin Akter beat Aisha Tamang of Nepal by 7-3 set points, Beauty Ray beat Sharbekova Asel by 7-1 set points, Ety Khatun beat Sze Wu Yan of Hong Kong by 6-0 set points while Mahanaz Akter Monera to advance to the round of 24 with the ‘bye’.

In the compound singles, Ashim Kumer Das and Md Sohel Rana reached men’s round of 16 and Shamoli Ray and Susmita Banik reached women’s round of 16.

In the day’s round of 24, Ashim Kumer Das defeated Pang Jin Toh of Singapore by 141-136 scores, Sohel beat his compatriot Siam Siddik by 144-142 scores while Mohammad Ashikuzzaman was eliminated conceding a 140-143 scores defeat to Khrisnanda Putera Komang of Indonesia.

Ashim ranked 23rd scoring 690, Ashikuzzaman ranked 26th scoring 683, Sohel Rana ranked 30th scoring 679 and Siam Siddik ranked 35th scoring 674 in the day’s qualification round.

In the day’s women’s compound’s round of 24, Shamoli Ray eliminated his compatriot Bonna Akther by 135-134 score while Susmita Banik beat Tung Wai Ka of Hong Kong by 144-108 score.Susmita ranked 22nd scoring 673, Bonna ranked 25th scoring 669 and Shamoli ranked 40th scoring 648.UNB
