Australia have promised to make up for the suspended Test tour of Bangladesh by playing ‘extra’ matches.Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan told the media about the matter on Friday after returning from International Cricket Council (ICC) Board meeting.Australia postponed the tour on Oct 1 citing security concerns. Cricket Australia Chairman Wally Edwards ‘regretted’ the postponement of the series in the ICC meeting.Hassan on Friday said at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium that Edwards pledged at the ICC meeting that he would try to arrange a Bangladesh tour ‘as early as possible’.“Australia repeatedly regretted as they did not come. They did it formally in front of all (at the ICC meeting),” Hassan said.“They said they will certainly compensate it and do even more. The problem is Australia have a tight schedule. “They will not be able to come to play Tests before the end of 2016 or 2017,” the BCB chief added. He said Australia had confirmed the tour of Bangladesh in front of all in the ICC meeting.
“They also said they will try to play at least one or two one-dayers or Twenty20s when they tour India or Sri Lanka to prove their eagerness to tour Bangladesh. But they have not confirmed it,” Hassan said.He, however, said he did not ask for any financial compensation for the suspension of the tour. He said he stressed on Bangladesh getting chance to play more games.“We’ve explained the losses we suffered because of the suspension of the tour…We tried to explain what cricket is to Bangladesh. We’ve succeeded,” he said. Hassan said he recommended making a ‘standard security plan’ in the ICC meeting while discussing the suspension of the tour.“I appealed to the ICC to take the lead. To fix the conditions on whether a team will go or not go,” he added.
