Azizul Alam Mintu and Mortuza Hossain have been elected president and
general secretary respectively of Bangladesh Paribahan Sangstha Sramik
Samity (227) Magura unit for the next two years.
They were elected in the biennial election to the country’s biggest
workers’ association held on Friday.
Azizul Alam secured 2833 out of 6776 votes cast while his nearest
candidate Mamunur Rashid bagged 2585 votes in the election.
Mortuza defeated his nearest candidate M Wahiduzzaman by a margin of
1,1507 votes.
Other elected office-bearers include three vice-presidents—Ratan Kumar
Odhikari, Rabiul Islam Robin and Zahid Hossain, joint general
secretary Shashti Dutta, assistant general secretary Nazrul Islam
Bablu, organising secretary Tipu Sultan and treasurer M Abdul Wadud.
