Bahrain to recruit 20,000 workers

Bahrain is willing to hire manpower from Bangladesh under government-to-government arrangements following the footsteps of Malaysia and Hong Kong, the Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister said on Sunday.“Bahrain is eager to be the pioneer in the Middle East in appointing workers under government-to-government arrangements. They (Bahrain) may recruit 20,000 workers in the first phase,” Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain has said.
Expatriates’ Welfare Secretary Zafar Ahmed Khan said: “A three-member delegation headed by the chief executive of Bahrain’s labour market’s regulatory authority arrived in Bangladesh on Sunday.”
“A group of representatives from Bangladesh government will sit with the Bahrain delegation on Monday to discuss issues regarding the matter.”
A registration process for sending workers to Hong Kong under government-to-government arrangements is ongoing.
The initiative was taken following eagerness of Hong Kong’s Association of Bangladesh Employment Agency in the last week of January.
The minister had said at the time 60,000 to 80,000 women workers would be sent to Hong Kong in the next six months and the government would train those selected for jobs there.bdnews24.com
