Bangabandhu Cup Golf Open 2019 begins Wednesday

Dhaka – The US$ 350,000 “Bangabandhu Cup Golf Open 2019”, an Asian Tour Professional Golf Tournament will be kicked off Wednesday at Kurmitola Golf Club here.
Bangladesh Golf Federation is organizing the highly-rated Asian Tour for the fifth time since 2015.
Players from around the world have arrived here to take part in the tournament. A total of 156 golfers from 22 countries of America, Australia, Europe, Africa and Asia, including 46 from Bangladesh – 40 professionals and six amateurs – are expected to take part in the 71-par-ground Asian Tour tournament, sponsored by National Bank Limited.
Bangladeshi famed golfers Siddikur Rahman and Jamal Hossain Mollah are optimistic to make better results in the ensuing meet.
After a practice session on Tuesday, Siddikur Rahman said he wants to win this year’s title.
Champions of all the four editions of Asian Tour in Bangladesh including Singapore golfer Mardan Mamat, who won the inaugural edition of Bangladesh Open in 2015 and a four-time Asian Tour and one-time European tour winner, is set compete in the meet for the 5th time in a row in Bangladesh.
The first three editions of the tournament were sponsored by Bashundhara Group while AB Bank sponsored the fourth edition.
West Indian legendary cricketer Gordon Greenidge who was the head Coach of Bangladesh team to clinch the ICC Trophy in 1997 is the schedule to arrive here on Thursday to add another feature to the tournament, named after Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Earlier, Chief of the Bangladesh Army and President of Bangladesh Golf Federation (BGF) General Aziz Ahmed unveiled the tournament’s logo at a function at the Banquet Hall of Kurmitola Golf Club Thursday afternoon. Indian film star Sanjoy Dutta graced the occasion.
Later, Quarter Master General of Bangladesh Army Lt Gen Mohammad Shamsul Haque officially unveiled the tournament’s trophy at a function at same venue Sunday evening. Bangladesh Cricket Board President Nazmul Hasan Papon MP was also present on the occasion as special guest.UNB
