Bangladesh: 8 Brazil fans hack Argentina fans in football craze

Khulna, June 20 – An attempt to murder case has been filed against eight Brazil fans for hacking an Argentinean supporter and his wife in Daulatpur Upazila under Khulna district in Bangladesh.
Dhalu Sheikh, a relative of the victim, filed the case with Daulatpur Police Station early Tuesday, said Kazi Mostak Ahmed, officer-in-charge of the police station.
The accused are Liton, 25, Kalam, 32, Mona, 22, Rony, 24, Firoz, 22, Yeasin, 22, Bacchu, 30 and Roky, 24, of Maheshwarpara in the upazila.
According to the case statement, clashes occurred between Argentina and Brazil supporters regarding the ongoing Russia World Cup after both the teams ended their first respective match with a draw.
On Saturday, Argentina’s first match ended in a draw. As a result, Brazil supporters from Mashsherpara started to ridicule the Argentina supporters. The next day, when Brazil ended up with a draw as well, their supporters were met with similar behaviour.
On Monday morning, Brazil supporters swooped on Argentina supporter Shukur Hawlader and started to hack him with sharp weapons. When his wife Minu tried to come to his aid, she was injured in the struggle as well.
Later, the victims were admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital.
However, no one was arrested till filing of this report on Wednesday, said investigation officer of the case Sub-inspector Shahinur Rahman. – UNB
