Bangladesh have called up seamer Shafiul Islam and all-rounder Ziaur Rahman as cover for the injured Rubel Hossain and Shahadat Hossain, ahead of next week’s second Test.Rubel and Shahadat are nursing respective shoulder and knee injuries, and are unlikely to be named in the XI for the series decider, which gets underway at the Harare Sports Club on Thursday.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board, meanwhile, has criticised the hefty 335-run defeat sustained in the first match, which saw the tourists bowled out for less than 150 in both innings.
“The batting performance in Harare had no similarity with that in Sri Lanka,” said BCB media committee chairman Jalal Yunus.
“We are disappointed with this poor showing by the batsmen. The senior players haven’t showed enough responsibility.
“I would urge the players who are not fully fit to return to Dhaka and get themselves into 100 percent fitness.”
