Bangladesh court closure extended until May 5

In line with the extended general holidays, all courts across the country will remain closed until May 5 to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain took the decision from a full-court meeting held through videoconferencing on Sunday.

The meeting was attended by 88 judges of both the Appellate and High Court divisions of the Supreme Court.

It was also decided to remove legal obstacle to running virtual court and form rules committee of Bangladesh Supreme Court again, said a press release signed by Mohammad Saifur Rahman, special officer and SC spokesperson.

Judges and lawyers will be given training on virtual hearing and disposing of the cases through videoconferencing.

Besides, the chief justice will be informed of the progress time to time. Judges of the subordinate court will stay at their respective workstations and keep contact with the Supreme Court registrar.

On April 23, the chief justice decided to run court activities on a limited scale to hear and dispose of very urgent cases during the holidays.UNB
