Bangladesh HC resumes regular operation after 5 months

Dhaka, Aug 12 – The regular activities of the High Court division resumed on Wednesday after five months of suspension due to Covid-19 outbreak. Judges, lawyers and court staffers were seen using face masks and sanitizers in the courtrooms and maintaining social distance, witnesses said.
Earlier on Monday, the Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain has formed 53 benches to operate the activities of the HC division in regular benches and also in virtual benches.
Among them, 18 benches have been operating regular judiciary activities and 35 benches virtually.
The Supreme Court announced general vacation since March 26, for coronavirus pandemic.
On May 10, an ordinance was promulgated allowing courts to run trial proceedings through videoconferences and other digital facilities. President Abdul Hamid promulgated the ordinance. – UNB
