Bangladesh men’s junior team win gold

Dhaka – Bangladesh men’s junior team clinched gold in the team’s Kata event on the opening day of South Asian Karate Championship 2019 at the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Indoor Stadium on Friday.

Bangladesh’s Bijoy, Proshanto and Rabbi beat India’s Ajanka, Bidhan and Yash in the men team’s Kata event.

Besides, Bangladesh bagged four silvers and three bronzes in different Kata events on the first day of two-day meet.

Silvers: Tayem Hawladar in cadet men’s individual, Sahadul in under-21 men’s individual, Nayem Souvon in junior men’s individual, Jannatul Ferdous Sumi in under-21 women’s individual.

Bronzes: Jayanti in cadet women’s individual, Bangladesh women’s team in team’s cadet and junior Kata events.

Earlier in the morning, Bangladesh Karate Federation (BKF) President and Commissioner of Anti-Corruption Commission Dr Md Mozammel Haque Khan inaugurated the meet as the chief guest.

Besides, President of South Asian Karate Do Federation (SAKF) Bharat Sharma and General Secretary Moazzem Hossain Sentu were also present as special guests.

The prize-giving ceremony will be held on Saturday at 3pm at the same venue. Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen will distribute the prizes among the winners.

A total of 245 karatekas from five South Asian countries – India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and hosts Bangladesh – are taking part in the regional meet.

Leading karatekas, split in four groups – Cadet, Junior, Under-21 and Senior – are taking part in the 60 events of the meet.UNB
