Bangladesh on Wednesday announced 2,111 Covid-19 cases in 24 hours, pushing up the total tally to 438,795.
Bangladesh’s health authorities also announced the death of 21 more deaths from the virus during the period that took the total casualties to 6,275.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the death rate from the virus now stands at 1.43 percent. So far, 354,788 patients — 80.86 percent — including 1,893 new ones recovered in the last 24 hours.
Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8. The infection number hit the 300,000-mark on August 26. The first death was reported on March 18 and the death toll exceeded 6,000 on November 4.
Until now, 2,589,421 tests have been carried out, including 16,469 new ones, and 16.95 percent of the patients turned out to be positive. Bangladesh is seeing 2576.50 infections, 2083.23 recoveries, and 36.85 deaths per million, the DGHS said.
So far, 3,296 have died in Dhaka division, 1,226 in Chattogram, 383 in Rajshahi, 484 in Khulna, 210 in Barishal, 259 in Sylhet, 287 in Rangpur and 130 in Mymensingh.
Global situation
The Covid-19 caseload stood at 55,672,841 on Wednesday, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University. Besides, the death toll from Covid-19 climbed to 1,339,125. The United States remains the worst-hit country with 248,687 deaths, and over 11.3 million cases so far.
India is in the second spot in terms of cases, with 8,912,907 cases as of this morning. It has reported 130,993 deaths so far — the third highest in the world. Besides, Brazil’s Covid-19 death toll reached 166,699 while the country’s confirmed cases rose to 5,911,758.
Coronavirus cases were first reported in China in December last year and the World Health Organization declared it a pandemic in March.
