Bangladesh reports 2198 new Covid-19 cases, 38 deaths

Bangladesh on Wednesday reported 2,198 new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours, bringing the caseload to 469,423.

Besides, 38 more patients died from the virus infection during the period which took the fatalities to 6,713. The mortality rate stood at 1.43 percent, said the Directorate General of Health Services.

A total of 227 people have died in the last seven days until Wednesday, according to DGHS. The highest number of deaths was reported on November 25 as 39 people lost their lives to Covid-19 on the day.

According to the latest data compiled by Jhons Hopkins University, Bangladesh holds the 26 position in number of cases among the world. So far, 385,786 patients – 82.18 percent — including 2,562 new ones in the last 24 hours have recovered.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8. The infection number reached the 300,000-mark on August 26. The first death was reported on March 18 and the death toll exceeded 6,000 on November 4.

Until now, 2,804,174 tests have been carried out, including 15,972 new ones, and 16.74 percent of the patients turned out to be positive. Bangladesh is seeing 2756.34 infections, 2265.25 recoveries, and 39.42 deaths per million.

As of now, 3,618 people have died in Dhaka division, 1,266 in Chattogram, 408 in Rajshahi, 499 in Khulna, 219 in Barishal, 266 in Sylhet, 303 in Rangpur, and 134 in Mymensingh.

Global situation

In a new grim milestone, the number of COVID-19 cases across the globe has crossed 63.7 million with 1,479,442 deaths on Wednesday, according to the Johns Hopkins University (JHU). The total caseload globally mounted to 63,788,113, said the data compiled by the JHU.

The US, which remained the worst-hit country in the world, reported 13,714,024 cases while the death toll from the virus reached 270, 532 as of Wednesday morning.

Brazil registered 50,909 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the national count to 6,386,787, the Health Ministry said Tuesday. Meanwhile, 697 more COVID-19 deaths were recorded, taking the nationwide tally to 173,817, it said.

In India, the death toll mounted to 137,621 with 482 reported on Tuesday while the country’s confirmed Covid-19 cases reached to 9,462,809.
