Dhaka, Dec 18 – The government has extended the closure of schools and educational institutions to January 16, as it looks to allay fears of a potentially brutal ‘second wave’ of infections exacerbated by the winter season.
The Education Ministry on Friday stretched the ongoing closure of educational institutions through an official notification.
Students have been asked to stay home and follow the guidelines and instructions of the Prime Minister’s Office, the cabinet division, the Public Administration Ministry and the Health Services Division.
The government closed schools and educational institutions on March 17 and extended the closure several times, most recently until December 19.
Bangladesh’s daily Coivid-19 infection rate has shown a rising trend this month, although more encouragingly that has dipped significantly just in the last four days.
The country’s fatalities from the virus rose to 7,217 following the latest update from health authorities on Friday when 25 more deaths were added. The country’s caseload meanwhile, since the start of the pandemic has ballooned to just under half-a-million (5 lakh). – UNB
