Bangladesh sees 2,611 new Covid-19 cases 32 deaths in a day

Dhaka, Aug 08 – Officially confirmed number of coronavirus cases in Bangladesh soared to 2,55,113 on Saturday with the detection of 2,611 new cases in the last 24 hours until morning.
The health authorities reported 32 new deaths, taking the local death tally to 3,365. The mortality is 1.32 percent in Bangladesh. Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 and the first death on March 18.
Labs across the country have tested 12,49,507 samples so far and 11,737 new tests were conducted in the last 24 hours.
The daily infection rate and overall detection rate since March 8 is 22.25 percent and 20.42 percent respectively.
Another 1,020 patients recovered from the disease across the country on Saturday, pushing up the recovery number to 1,46,604. The recovery rate against the total cases is 57.47 percent.
Additional Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Dr Nasima Sultana came up with the data at the daily health bulletin broadcasted online from Mohakhali.
Twenty-two of 32 new deceased are between 51 and 70 years of age. “One is between 21 and 30, four between 41 and 50, 12 between 51 and 60, 10 between 61 and 70, four between 71 and 80 and another between 81 and 90 years,” Dr Nasima said.
In the last 24 hours, Dhaka division saw 16 new deaths while five died in Khulna, two in Sylhet and one in Barishal division. Chattrogram and Rajshahi divisions recorded four deaths each.
Dr Nasima noted that over 1,600 people have died in Dhaka division since March 18.
“So far, 1,613 people have died in Dhaka division, 798 in Chattogram, 209 in Rajshahi, 252 in Khulna, 132 in Barishal, 158 in Sylhet, 132 in Rangpur and 71 people have died in Mymensingh division,” she said.
Meanwhile, 19,025 people are currently in isolation while 52,942 are home and institutionally quarantined in the country. – UNB
