With ‘slow wicket’ being the buzzword for the England series, Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Bin has hinted that he prefers sporting wickets.
Bangladesh take on England in the first match of the three-ODI series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Friday. The match is set for a 2:30pm start.
Even before England had arrived for their five-week long tour, the words ‘slow wicket’ were being thrown around.
But Mashrafe pointed out how successful they had been on sporting wickets last season.
“If you look at the wickets from last two years, there weren’t too many turning wickets. We played on sporting wickets and our batsmen did well,” he said.
“I don’t think we will rely on just spin. All our sections are doing well and we have faith in the whole team.”
The Tigers’ pace bowling unit played a major role in their success last year, which included ODI series victories over Pakistan, India and South Africa on the bounce at home.
But talismanic pacer Mustafizur Rahman, a key figure in Bangladesh’s string of success, is out of the England series with an injury.
Mashrafe, however, has a lot of faith in the current pack.
“Mustafizur is out with an injury. I hope he returns soon. But the others in the pace unit are all good. I hope we will do well.”
