Bangladesh team share 2nd position in Asian Nations Cup Chess

DHAKA – Bangladesh team is now sharing 2nd position with five match points along with India and Indonesia after
3rd round matches of the Asian Nations Cup Online Chess Championship Online Chess Team that has begun today.

Four teams are sharing the leads with maximum six points. The teams are Philippines, Iran, Mongolia and Kazakhstan.

In the 1st round, Bangladesh team beat Saudi Arabia by 4-0 games points. GM Niaz Murshed, IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman, GM Ziaur Rahman and GM Reefat Bin Sattar won against CM Al Thebaiti, Ahmed, Alrehaili, Ahmed Abdullah S, Al Turky, Fahad A and Khayat, Emad of Saudi Arabia respectively.

In 2nd round, Bangladesh beat Jordan by 3.5 0.5 game points. IM Fahad, GM Zia and GM Reefat won against IM Ahmad, Al Khatib, IM Loay Sammer and CM Saif, Malek of Jordan respectively. GM Niaz Murshed drew with IM Mansour, Sameer.

In 3rd round, Bangladesh split point with Indonesia by 2-2 game points. GM Reefat beat IM Setyaki, Azarya Jodi of Indonesia. GM Niaz split point with IM Taher, Yoseph Theolifus and GM Zia drew with IM Priasmoro, Novendra of Indonesia. IM Fahad lost to GM Megaranto Susanto of Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the first, second and third round matches of the women’s section will be held on tomorrow (Sunday) at 12 pm (BST).

A total of 38 teams in open section and 31 teams of women’s section are participating from Asian and Oceania in the event.

Preliminary phases of both sections are being held in a 9 round Swiss-League system each. Top eight teams from each section will qualify in the Quarter final. After the winners of the Quarter final will play Semi-final and
winners of semi-final of both sections will play in the final.BSS
