Young director Sabbir Ahmed Shohag’s Ekattorer Din (Day of ’71) has been selected to represent Bangladesh at Busan International Kids and Youth Film Festival. Starting in the first week of July in South Korea, this short film is the only one from Bangladesh competing in the 18 and above ‘ready-action’ category.The plot of Day of Seventy-One is based on the Liberation War of Bangladesh. The film follows around two siblings Shafiq and Alo. They were orphaned during the liberation war.
The whole film shows the love, affection and varying changes that a brother and his sister undergo during the war. Many years later, a chance encounter with a homeless freedom fighter stirs up buried emotions in the sister. The story ends with a strange scene from the brother’s sister.
Shohag said to the media, “Short films help me sharpen my imaginations and through it, many thoughts can be shared. An international film festival like this fosters this drive even further. The opportunity of getting a huge platform in South Korea is indeed heart-lifting.”
The director plans to attend the festival, which starts on July 11. Of the 19 other films competing this year, 14 are from Korea.
The film has previously featured in several local and international film festivals in Bangladesh. The film has been awarded in many film festivals like ‘Children Film Festival’ in Bangladesh as well. The film also made round at the Pune Inter-college International Short Film Festival.
Ekattorer Din features Yeasir Shohag, Ahmed Shohana, Faisal Mahmud Nil, Md Salahuddin, Bannya Bhuiya, Johni khan and Samsul Islam Shopon in central roles.
