Dhaka– Defending champions Bashundhara Kings managed a hard-fought 1-0 goal victory over newcomers Uttar Baridhara Club in the opening match of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) at their home venue at Sheikh Kamal Stadium in Nilphamari on Thursday.
After a barren first half, World Cup-playing Costa Rica booter Daniel Colindres scored the match-winning goal for star-studded Bashundhaka Kings in the 87th minute.
Lowly Uttar Baridhara Club, which were promoted to the BPL football as the runners-up team of Bangladesh Championship League BCL), forced big-budgeted Kings to play goalless till the 86th minute of the match.
Uttar Baridhara Club could take the lead in the 85th minute. Baridhara forward took a powerful long-range shot from outside the box that touched the cross bar.
Bashundhara Kings got the winning goal from a counter attack.
Substitute Mahbubur Rahman Sufil crossed a ball in the danger zone, but Baridhara goalkeeper could not read the ball correctly and Daniel Colindres sent it to the net (1-0).
Bashundhara Kings dominated the match from the very beginning but they had to wait for a goal till 87th minute.
In the last season’s league, Bashundhara Kings played 12 home matches and drew only one match against Mohammedan SC. UNB
