Bashundhara Kings emerge group champions

DHAKA -Star-studded Bashundhara Kings continued their domination as they emerged group C champions of the Federation Cup Football beating Chattogram Abahani Limited by a solitary goal in their last group C match held today at Bangabandhu National Stadium here.

With the day’s win, Bashundhara secured six points from two matches with their two successive victories while Chattogram Abahani Limited finished group C runners-up with three points from the same number of matches.

Earlier the post city team beat Rahmatganj Muslim and Friends Society by a lone goal in their previous group match.

Bashundhara Kings will play their quarterfinal match against group A runners-up team on January 3 next after group C runners-up Chattogram Abahani Limited will take on group A champions on January 1. Both the matches will be held at the same venue.

After the barren first half, foreign recruit Oscar finally broke the deadlock scoring the all-important goal for Bashundhara in the 49th minute of the match and the holders maintained the lead till the final whistle.

The post city team Chattogram Abahani Limited however tried to stage a fight back in the remaining proceeding creating some scoring chances but failed to level the margin lacks of proper finishing.

Bashundhara Kings played good football, especially their defenders kept the defense intact all through the proceeding and notched their deserving victory, while Chattogram Abahani got some scoring chances in the second half but failed to convert any of those.

Earlier, Bashundhar Kings made an auspicious start as they blanked Rahmatganj Muslim and Friends Society by 3-0 goals while Chattogram Abahani Limited beat the old Dhaka outfit Rahmarganj by a solitary goal in both their
respective group opening matches.
