A programme of face to face between the citizens and mayor candidates
arranged under the BBC Sanglap (BBC Dialogue) of BBC Bangla Programme
has been cancelled.
The programme was scheduled to be held at Barisal Sher-e-Bangla
Medical College auditorium at 8:30 pm Wednesday night with direct
broadcast through BTV and Radio Bangladesh.
A press release of the BBC Sanglap said that although all arrangements
were completed, at the last moment two major Mayor Candidates Ahsan
Habib Kamal backed by 18-party alliance and Shawkat Hossain Hiron
backed by 14-party alliance expressed their incapability to
participate in the programme.
Kamal alleged that earlier he was forced to walk out from such a kind
of programme at the same venue due to some unpleasant activities of
the activists of rival candidate. So he decided not to participate
further in any such programme.
Hiron said as his main rival candidate would not participate, he also
decided not to attend the programme.
