BCB president pleased with performance of Taskin, Rubel

DHAKA— Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon was elated with the performance of Taskin Ahmed and Rubel Hossain, who came back with a bang in the just concluded BCB President’s Cup.

While Taskin Ahmed impressed everyone with his pace and consistency just after coming back to the cricket from his injury, Rubel Hossain was the highest wicket-taker in the tournament with 12 wickets. Rubel also showed a rare consistency to surprise many.

“I like seeing Taskin operating with great enthusiasm and this tournament is actually the comeback series of Taskin and Rubel. Taskin is back from injury. In the same way I was a little worried about Rubel that what he will do. But he had done extremely well,” said Papon here today.

Not only Rubel and Taskin, but also, most of the pacers had done extremely well in the tournament. The pitch also helped them a little bit. Nevertheless, Papon is happy with the overall performance of the fast bowlers at a time when the team management is searching a core fast bowling group.

“Besides Taskin and Rubel, young fast bowlers Sumon Khan, Ebadot also played well. They were impressive in the tournament,” he added.

Papon also had praise for young batsman like Irfan Shukkur, Towhid Ridoy who showed their capability of playing good innings alongside the senior players.

“Irfan Shukkur and Towhid Ridoy also played very well with willow. I think Sheikh Mahedi Hasan is a potential all-rounder. Overall the young batsman batted well along with the pacers. Even young Shariful’s bowling was eye-catching, “ he added.

The BCB president said he is overall happy with the fact that the cricket has returned to the ground at least amid Covid-19 pandemic. The players were in bio-secure bubble throughout the tournament and adjusted with the new normal.

“It is satisfying to see the players adjusted with the new normal. They didn’t complain and did all the things what they are asked to do,” he said.

He added that now Bangladesh is ready to back in the International cricket too.

BCB boss thinks that the successful conclusion of this event (President’s Cup) means, “Now we can think of organizing a series on home soil and going abroad to play. The cricketers know that they understand how to play on the field from the bio-safety zone in Covid-19.”BSS
