BCL factional clash leaves 10 wounded at IU

At least 10 activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) were injured in a factional clash at Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia on Tuesday afternoon.

Jahangir Arif, officer-in-charge of IU Police Station, said there had been a longstanding dispute between IU BCL unit incumbent general secretary Rakibul Islam Rakib and former assistant secretary Faisal Siddique Arafat over establishing supremacy on the campus.

Following the dispute, the two factions swooped on each other with sharp weapons, leaving 10 people, including Rakib, injured.

The feuding groups also exploded four crude bombs during the clash.

IU acting Proctor Anisur Rahman went to the spot and sent the injured to Kushtia Sadar Hospital and IU Medical Centre for treatment.

Meanwhile, around 100 supporters of Arafat locked IU main gate.

The acting proctor said they were trying to take all measures to fend off further trouble on the campus.
