BCL: South Zone dominate East Zone

Dhaka — The BCB South Zone maintained their clean domination against Islami Bank East Zone on the 2nd day of the 2nd round of the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) at academy ground of the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in Cox’s Bazar on Saturday.

South Zone, resuming on their overnight total of 443 runs for 6 in 87 overs, closed the innings at 482 runs all-out in 101.3 overs. Anamul Haque Bijoy (129), Nurul Hasan Sohan (155) and Mahedi Hasan (112) hit centuries for them on day one.Rejaur Rahman and Saqlain Sajib took three wickets each while Hasan Mahmud bagged two for the East.

In reply, East Zone scored 270 for 5 in 78 overs when bails were drawn for day two (Saturday). Pinak Ghosh pairing with former Bangladesh captain Mohammad Ashraful opened the innings and posted 146 runs for the opening partnership to make a solid foundation.

Ashraful fell as the first batsman  scoring 71 runs off 123 balls with 12 fours. After Ashraful’s dismissal, his partner Pinak failed to last for a long time at the crease. He fell for 81 off 151 balls with 12 fours and one six.

Yasir Ali (44), Imrul Kayes (28) and Afif Hossain (15) failed to produce good batting display despite being to be settled at the middle. At the end of the day, Nasir Hossain and Zakir Hasan remained unbeaten for 12 and 13.

Walton Central Zone vs BCB North Zone

Replying to Walton Central Zone first innings total of 170, North Zone stretched their overnight total of 89 for 3 to 166 for all wickets in 63.4 overs with the highest score of 50 by Ariful Haque.

Mustafizur Rahman took four wickets conceding 68 runs in 23 overs while Arafat Sunny bagged two wickets.In reply, Central Zone lost five wickets scoring 187 runs in 51.3 overs t the end of the day-two of the game.

Opener Mohammad Naim suffered a duck after he had suffered the same pain in the first innings as well. Central Zone lost three wickets just in 50 runs in their 2nd innings. However, in the fourth wicket stand, Abdul Mazid and Taibur Rahman added 89 runs to the board.

Abdul Mazid fell for 69 while Taibur scored 47. At the end of the day, Shuvagata Hom and Jaker Ali were unbeaten for 28 and 0.

After taking five wickets in the first innings, Taskin Ahmed bagged two in the second innings so far while Salahuddin Sakil, Sumon Khan and Ariful Haque took one wicket each.
