BD HR Commission wants kitchen market duration extended

Bangladesh Human Rights Commission (BHRC) on Saturday urged the concerned authorities to extend the kitchen market hours by three more hours to lessen the pressure in the morning.

BHRC proposed extending the kitchen market time till 5pm instead of 2pm to reduce the people gathering in greater numbers in the capital as well as other markets across the country, said a press release.

More people have been gathering at a time as the duration of kitchen market is up to 2pm, said BHRC adding that it is seriously interrupting the maintenance of social distancing.

On Friday, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) advised shifting shops from kitchen markets as much as possible and installing those alongside roads maintaining a 20-foot distance from each other.

It gave the advice to implement government’s instructions to maintain social distancing to prevent the coronavirus spread.
