BD Manpower export to Seychelles resume, deal signed

Dhaka, Oct 21 (UNB) – Bangladesh has signed an Agreement on Labour Cooperation (ALC) with the Seychelles, opening the way for manpower export to resume to the Indian Ocean archipelago nation off the east coast of Africa.

Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmad and Seychelles Employment Minister Myriam Telemaque signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides in Victoria, the capital of the Seychelles, on Monday.

Earlier on Saturday a four-member delegation led by Imran Ahmad left Dhaka to sign the agreement.

The delegation includes Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Joint Secretary Md Fazlul Karim, Deputy Secretary Shaheen Mohammad, and Manpower Employment and Training Bureau Deputy Secretary D M Atiqur Rahman.

The team will return home on October 23.

Currently around 2500 Bangladeshi workers are said to be living and working in the Seychelles, where the government had temporarily suspended taking in more workers from Bangladesh exactly a year ago, in October 2018.
