Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu on Wednesday said despite a global conspiracy against Bangladesh’s readymade garment (RMG) sector, it is continuously maintaining a positive trend.
“There was a global conspiracy against our RMG sector and still there is. However, our garment sector is maintaining a positive growth despite the negative campaign of a vested quarter,” he said.
Amu came up with the information while inaugurating the 18th Textech Bangladesh International Expo-2017, 12th Dhaka International Yarn and Fabric Show-2017 and 28th Dye-Chem Bangladesh Expo-2017’ organised by Sems Global at International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB).
“Nothing can halt the progress of the RMG sector as the government is taking initiatives for its development,” he said.
The government has made progress on improving the overall environment of garment factories, strengthening workers’ security, fixing the basic salary for the workers, strict monitoring and factory inspection, the minister said.
Meherun N Islam, managing director of Sims Global, presided over the function while President of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) M Shafiul Islam, President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Md Siddiqur Rahman and Vice-president of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) Mansoor Ahmed, among others, addressed the function.
