BD to recruit 10,000 doctors soon: Nasim

Dhaka, Aug 3 – Health Minister Mohammad Nasim on Thursday said the government has taken an initiative to appoint 10,000 physicians soon through special BCS examinations.“As per the Prime Minister’s directives, some 3,000 doctors will be recruited in the first phase. Later, 7,000 more will be appointed in phases to overcome the crisis of physicians at the grassroots level,” he said.
While chairing a views-exchange meeting with divisional directors, civil surgeons and directors of different hospitals at his office, the minister also said the government recruited 6,000 doctors three years ago.
Besides, the government has taken steps to fulfil some 40,000 vacant posts of Class-III and IV employees in government hospitals, he added.
“After the new appointment, it’ll be possible to resolve the crisis of manpower and physicians at the hospitals,” Nasim said.
He directed the divisional directors, civil surgeons and directors of government hospitals to strengthen their monitoring to ensure the attendance of physicians at upazila and union-level hospitals and clinics, said a PID handout.
State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Zahid Maleque, Health Services Division Secretary Serajul Huq Khan, Medical Education and Family Welfare Division Secretary Sirazul Islam, Director General of Directorate General of Health Services Prof Abul Kalam Azad were, among others, present at the meeting. – UNB
