BD to warm up for qualifier playing Indian team

Dhaka – Bangladesh Women’s Hockey team will play some six preparatory matches against the touring Sports Authority of India (SAI) team in the 3rd and 4th week of this month, ahead of their maiden Women’s Junior Asia Cup Hockey Qualifiers beginning in Singapore on September 9.The SAI team, under the banner of Indian National Sports Hockey team, is likely to arrive here in the 3rd week of this month to will play some six preparatory matches against Bangladesh team from Aug 18-28.

Bangladesh Women’s team is likely to leave here for Singapore on September 4 to play in the Women’s Junior Asia Cup Hockey Qualifiers from September 9-15.

Bangladesh Women’s hockey team have been pitted in Group B with Singapore, Uzbekistan and Hong Kong while Group A comprises Chinese Taipei, Kazakhstan, Nepal and Sri Lanka in the Junior Asia Cup Qualifiers, scheduled to be held from September 9-15 this year.

Bangladesh will take on Hong Kong in their opening match on September 9 before locking horns with Uzbekistan and Singapore on September 11 and 12 respectively.

This is the very first time in history that the Bangladesh women team will take part in the Junior Asia Cup Qualifiers.

The top two teams will advance to the main round, slated for next year, where China, Japan, South Korea, India, Malaysia and Thailand lie in wait.UNB
