BFF election to be held on Oct. 3

DHAKA – The much-talked election of Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) will be held on October 3, BFF senior vice president Abdus Salam Murshedy informed the press after the BFF executive committee’s meeting held today at BFF Bhaban.

“It was a preliminary decision to hold the BFF’s Annual General Meeting on October 3 …. it’s not our final decision …. we’ll carry our decision to FIFA and Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and also will send them letters in this regards ” said Murshedy through a video message after the meeting.

The tenure of the present committee ended on April 30 last and the BFF fixed the date of the election and congress on April 20 but due to outbreak of COVID-19 the BFF had to postpone the election for indefinite period after taking consent of FIFA and AFC.

FIFA has given the present committee the power to continue until the election is held and instructed to arrange the election when the COVID-19 situation is normal.

On Monday, the government decided to start the sports activities in a limited way maintaining proper health protocols so the BFF announce the new date of election after the decision of the government.

Murshedy said FIFA will give U$ 1.5 million to BFF under the terms of COVID-19 relief fund including to use U$ one million for general men’s football development activities while the remaining 0.5 million will be expended for development of women’s football.

The BFF senior vice president informed that women’s football league, which was earlier postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic, will resume in November subjected to improvement of COVID-19 situation in the country.BSS
