Big guns fail in 1st inter-squad game

Dhaka — Most of the big guns of Bangladesh national cricket team failed to perform in the 1st match of the two-match inter-squad T20 series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium here on Sunday.

National cricketer-studded Red Team suffered a humiliating 50 runs defeat against Green Team.Bangladesh Test and T20 captain Shakib Al Hasan skipped the game. The media manager of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Rabeed Imam said the captain was out of the game with the permission of the head coach.

However, the cause of his absence was not revealed. Shakib will not be available for the next game as well, which is scheduled for Monday.

BCB Green Team batted first and posted 143 runs for nine wickets in 20 overs. Yasir Ali Rabbi hit 39 off 21 balls with four fours and two sixes. Imrul Kayes, the probable replacement for Tamim Iqbal who withdrew himself from the India tour, hit 32 runs.

Abu Hider Rony and Aminul Islam Biplob bagged three wickets for the Red Team.In reply, BCB Red tumbled for 93 in 17.4 overs as the big guns failed to live up to the expectation.

Soumya Sarkar fell for a duck in the first over. He was trapped by run-out. Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad fell for four and seven respectively. Mosaddek Hossain also followed them scoring only 1.

Arafat Sunny scalped three wickets for BCB Green while Taijul Islam bagged two.Both teams will lock horns in another intra-squad practice game on Monday. The match will start at 6pm.UNB
