Scientists of Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA) here said 71 varieties of
different crops including rice and legumes developed by them have been contributing a
lot to the country’s agriculture.
The salinity tolerant and submergence rice varieties developed by BINA have been
a great hope for thousands of farmers in greater Mymensingh and southern part of
the country, said the scientists while addressing the concluding session of a two-day
workshop at its auditorium here Sunday.
The country is losing cultivable land every year and now it is a big challenge for the
agriculture scientists to contain the present production rate to feed the ever growing
population, the scientists said.
They said the media people can play a vital role in reaching the newly developed four
varieties of rice by BINA to farmers’ doorstep.
The scientists of BINA have produced different kinds of bio-fertilizers at a very cheap
cost in comparison with chemical fertilizers and the farmers can gain more profit using
bio-fertilizers that also contain the soil quality well.
BINA’s chief scientific officers Dr. Md. Tariqul Islam and Dr. Hosneara Begum; its
senior scientific officer and head of Agricultural Engineering Division Dr. Md. Hossain
