BNP pays homage to Liberation War martyrs

Dhaka, Dec 16 – BNP on Monday paid homage to the martyred freedom fighters who made the supreme sacrifice for the country during the Liberation War in 1971 by placing wreaths at the National Mausoleum in Savar, marking the 49th Victory Day.BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir together with party senior leaders placed wreaths at the memorial around 10:30 am.
Party standing committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, chairperson’s adviser Abdus Salam and joint secretary general Khairul Kabir Khokan were, among others, present.
Later, they placed wreaths at the grave of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Banglanagar in the capital.
The BNP leaders also offered a munajat seeking salvation of Zia’s departed soul.
Earlier in the morning, they hoisted national and party flags atop the party offices marking the Victory Day.
The party is scheduled to bring out a ‘Victory Day Rally’ in the capital in celebrations of the Victory Day on Tuesday.
BNP’s different units and associate bodies also marked the day with various programmes across the country.
BNP’s Nayapaltan central office and its chairperson’s Gulshan office were illuminated on the occasion. – UNB
