BNP rally at 3pm

BNP appears all set for a party rally at Suhrawardy Uddyan on Wednesday to demanding restoration of the caretaker system. The party’s Dhaka metropolitan unit Member Secretary Abdus Salam told journalists they had completed all preparations despite “a very limited time”.
“The rally will start at 3:00pm.”
A stage has been put up against the walls of Engineers Institute facing north. 50 loudspeakers were put up in and around it.
Heavy police deployment in and around the area could be seen.
This will be the first rally of the party in Suhrawardy Uddyan.
Earlier an 18-Party alliance rally was held on May 4 in Motijheel – from where a 48-hour deadline was given to the government for restoring the caretaker system.
Then BNP failed to secure permissions for their May 12 and 15 rallies they wanted to hold in front of their Naya Paltan headquarters.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Tuesday granted permission for the rally in Suhrawardy Uddyan and not Naya Paltan.
BNP agreed to the change in venue.
Senior BNP leaders, including Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will address the rally.
The rally has been called to ask for restoration of the caretaker system to hold parliament elections, withdrawal of arrest warrant against BNP Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman, release of activists and withdrawal of false cases against them.
On Tuesday, a new anti-terrorism law was passed in Parliament. BNP leader Moudud Ahmed said it was meant to repress the opposition.
