BNP wants army other law enforcers to transport food items

BNP on Sunday demanded the government give army and other law enforcement agencies the responsibility for transporting the ‘food items’ to ensure adequate supply of goods across the country.

BNP senior joint secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made the demand while handing over PPEs to the authorities of Dhanmondi’s Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital at the initiative of Ziaur Rahman Foundation and Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB).

“It’s now imperative to ensure enough agricultural products and food in the market to save people from starvation. So, the army and other law enforcement agencies should be given responsibility for transporting these food items,” he said.

The BNP leader alleged that people are passing through a very bad time for lack of food at different parts of the country. “Baggers are searching food on footpaths while people put up a barricade on Dhaka-Chattogram highway for food and a truck loaded with relief materials was plundered in the district,” he said.

Though the poor people are suffering for want of food, ruling party leaders are misappropriating rice and other relief goods, he alleged.

“Rice and edible oil are being recovered from the houses of ruling party leaders. A pro-ruling party female UP member has embezzled money meant for baggers. These misdeeds are happening for lack of a responsible and accountable government.”

Rizvi said though the opposition parties are talking about a national unity to tackle the corona situation and assuage the sufferings of people with united efforts, the government is not paying heed to it.

The BNP leader said their party does not want to criticise the government under the current situation, but it is their responsibility to present the real situation and its lapses to effectively deal with the current situation.
