BNP wants govt to quit as ‘life becomes unbearable’ under it

Dhaka, Nov 22 – BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday said that the people want the present government to quit power immediately as what he said their lives have become unbearable due to price hike of essential commodities.“The lives of commoners have become unbearable due to the increase of essentials. Ruling party people are eating up all things pushing the country towards destruction. The people want the government to quit power at once,” he said while speaking at a discussion meeting at Supreme Court Bar Association Auditorium.
Secchasebok Dal, a front organization of the opposition BNP, organised the meeting to mark the 55th birthday of party acting chairman Tarique Rahman.
Terming the present government as ‘father of autocrat’, the BNP leader said they (government) are not autocrats; they are the father of autocrats and fascists.
Mirza Alamgir said they are trying to unite the people irrespective of political affiliation to create a mass upsurge to free party chairperson Khaleda Zia and restore the democracy.
He alleged that the former premier is now in jail for the sake of democracy as she was not given release on bail though ministers and lawmakers get bail in such cases.
The BNP leader appreciated the role of Tarique Rahman, who I snow living in London in self-exile, saying that he is working to restore the democracy.
Presided over by Shafiul Bari Babu, the president of the organization, the meeting was also addressed, among others, by Advocate Joynal Abedin, Shawkat Mahmud, Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel, and Mir Sharafat Ali Sapu. – Staff Reporter
