Body of girl recovered, Bashundhara Group MD sued

Dhaka, April 27 – Police recovered the body of a young girl from a rented flat in the capital’s Gulshan area on Monday night.
The deceased Mosharrat Jahan Munia was a college student, hailing from Cumilla city. She lived in the flat alone, police said. Her sister filed a case with Gulshan Police Station early yesterday (Tuesday) against Sayem Sobhan Anvir, Managing Director of Bashundhara Group, Sudip Chakrabarty, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Gulshan Division Police, told the media.
In the case statement, charges of abetting suicide have been brought against the businessman, he said. Meanwhile, a Dhaka court declared bar for Sayem Sobhan to go abroad. Earlier, Police Inspector Abul Hasan sought bar against the foreign visit of the accused while Magistrate Shahidul Islam of Dhaka CMM Court passed the order. Meanwhile, receiving the First Information Report (FIR) of the case the court fixed May 30 for submission of the probe report in the case.
‘We are investigating the allegations. If we find primary evidence against the accused, we will go for legal action against him,’ the DC of Police added.
Police officials said the girl called her sister in Cumilla on Monday afternoon and said she was in trouble there. Her sister rushed to the flat in Dhaka. After breaking open the door, she found the girl’s body hanging from a ceiling fan.
On information, police rushed to the spot. Police initially found evidence that the girl was acquainted with Sayem, who used to visit her there, the DC said.
Another police official said there are many photos of the man with the girl in the flat. Digital devices used by the deceased were seized for forensic analysis. Security guards of the building also told police that the lone accused used to visit the girl in her flat.
Inspector Abul Hasan, Officer-in-Charge of Gulshan Police Station, is investigating the incident.
Victim Munia was in second year in a college of the capital. Her body was recovered from a flat of Road No. 120 of Gulshan 2 on Monday evening. The victim’s elder sister Nusrat Jahan filed the case with Gulshan Police Station under Section 306 of the Penal Code accusing a top business group MD. The victim’s family live in Cumilla town. Valliant freedom fighter Shafiqur Rahman is her father.
