Boy killing: 16 get life term in Jessore

speedy trial tribunal here on Sunday convicted 16 people of killing a youth in Jessore in 2006 and sentenced them to life imprisonment.

The tribunal also fined them Tk 5,000 each, in default, to suffer one year more in rigorous imprisonment.

According to the prosecution, Mostafa Kabir, 22, son of Abul Kashem of Barni village in Jhikargachha upazila of Jessore district, locked in an altercation with some villagers over watering a paddy field on December 18, 2006.

On December 22, while Kabir along with his two cousins was going to Narangali Bazar, some miscreants caught him.

Later, the attackers chopped him and finally severed this throat.

Locals rushed Kabir to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The following day, victim’s uncle Gazi M Rafiqul Islam filed a murder case against 24 people with Jhikargachha Police Station.

On December 7, 2007, officer-in-charge of the police station M Mujibur Rahman, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted charge sheet with a district court.

On March 5, 2015, the sensational case was transferred to the Khulna Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal.

After examining the witnesses and records, Judge of the tribunal MA Rob Hawladar handed down the verdict.
