BPL Draft: Mashrafe in Dhaka Platoon, Mushfiqur in Khulna

Dhaka — Top Bangladeshi cricketers got their teams in the players’ draft ahead of Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

Dhaka Platoon picked Mashrafe Bin Mortaza while Khulna Tigers went for Musfiqur Rahim and Chattogram Challenger selected Mahmudullah Riyad.

The draft for BPL, beginning December 11, was held at a local hotel on Sunday evening.Mushfqiur, Mahmudullah, Mustafizur Rahman, Liton Das, Soumya Sarkar were picked by various teams but ODI captain Mashrafe remained overlooked by all seven participating teams till the seventh round of players’ calling.

Mohammad Ashraful was ignored by the teams.Khulna Tigers got the first chance to call a player and they picked Mushfiqur. Right after him, Dhaka Platoons went for Tamim Iqbal. After that, Rajshahi Royals selected Liton and Chattogram Challengers called Mahmudullah in their set-up.

Rangpur Rangers, Comilla Warriors and Sylhet Thunders picked Mustafizur, Soumya and Mosaddek respectively.In the second call, Sylhet went for Mohammad Mithun, Comilla selected Al Amin Hossain, Rangpur roped in Mohammad Naim, Chattogram called Imrul Kayes, Rajshahi called Afif Hossain, Dhaka called Anamul Haque Bijoy and Khulna opted for Shafiul Islam.

This year’s BPL is rebranded as Bangabandhu BPL to honour the 100th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

There will be no franchise in this edition of BPL as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said it will run every team this year. However, BCB appointed five teams sponsors who will get several facilities from the board.

A total of seven teams will participate in this year’s BPL. The league is scheduled to kick off on December 11. An opening ceremony will be held on December 6.
