BPL Football: Saif, Rahmatganj end first phase with wins

Dhaka – Saif Sporting Club and Rahmatganj MFS completed the first phase of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) football with wins on Friday.

Saif SC defeated Muktijoddha Sangsad KC by 2-0 goals at Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani Stadium in Gopalganj while Rahmatganj MFS overwhelmed Dhaka Mohammedan by 2-1 goals at Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka.

With this win, Saif have now 23 points in all 12 matches with 7 wins, 2 draws and 3 losses. On the other hand, ninth-placed Rahmatganj earned 12 points from their 12 BPL matches with 2 wins, 6 draws and 4 losses.

Muktijoddha have 15 points in 12 games with 4 wins, 3 draws and 5 losses while Mohammedan have 6 points in 12 matches with 1 win, 3 draws and 8 losses.

All of these teams ended their first phase remaining in their previous spots. Saif SC remained in the 4th spot while Muktijoddha, Rahmatganj and Mohammedan remained respectively at 6th, 9th and 11th spot in the 13-team league.

After a goalless first half in Gopalganj, Saif’s Russian midfielder Denis Bolshakov led his side scoring a goal in the 48th minute of the game. Muktijoddha got another blow when midfielder Javed Khan doubled the score for Saif SC 2-0.

The hosts tried hard to pay back but failed. The touring side won the game by 2-0 goals.

Rahmatganj registered their second victory in the league beating Mohammedan by 2-1 goals in Dhaka. Defender Mohamed Faysal Ahmed scored the goal in the 4th minute. But, midfielder Mohamed Habibur Rahman Sohag brought relief for Mohammedan by an equaliser 1-1 in the 11th minute of the game.

Eleventh-placed Mohammedan were looking for another draw. But, Rahmatganj’s Congo recruit Siyo Zunapio Jeancy dashed Mohammedan’s hopes when he scored the match winner in the 74th minute.UNB
